Hitboxes and movement speed are the same for every race. The only difference I know of, is the fact that skills used by asura appear smaller then they really are. That means that an asuran ele that breathes fire would hit you, even if you would stand just outside of the fire effect. This should, however, only make a difference in PvP and WvW.

The bladed mask (karma item, I think iron marches) is a non-starter non-cultural helm that looks excellent for medium armor charr characters, too. For medium armor, you just want to look for coats with tail holes. SE, Arah, "generic" named exotic (like vatlaaw's coat), CoF, and CoE all look pretty sweet.
